And he adds the text scripts for a handful of cartoon, which really do not read well. Chuck Jones is without doubt one of the greatest animated cartoon directors of all time. I read rather a lot of auto-biographies I find them very easy to read for some reason, I can normally finish them in one sittingand this is probably my favourite ever. I continue to cook up animated works that I want to do in my head, but it safe to say they’ll never exist. It’s certainly not an autobiography.
Witty, thoughtful and written with a clear love of his colleagues and his art, Jones reveals the philosophy behind his work without ever sounding preachy.

We try, and are usually able, to keep the more antisocial traits of those characters under control. If you don’t respect that single frame akuck in the same boat with a musician who does not respect an eighth note or a sixteenth note or a thirty-second note or whatever.
In writing about his legacy he comes across as a keen intellect, humble, hilarious, and inspiring. The only downside to reading this memoir written in is finding out what a total boys’ club the studio was, which shouldn’t have been a total surprise, given the time period and the fact that there were never any major female characters.
In the s and the s, Jones painted and sold cartoons chuci parody art and directed several animation sequences. Chuck Jones was one of the minds behind all that brilliance.

Jones’ cartoons were ubiquitous in my youth I also liked his comparative anatomy drawings of different animals, both realistic and animated. In the early s, Jones and his wife, Dorothy, wrote the screenplay for the animated feature Gay Purr-ee. Attached to many of my favorites was the title “Directed by Chuck Jones. And it adds disappointingly little knowledge to those who have read ‘ Of Mice and Magic: Beautifully wirtten and illustrated obviouslyif you can find a copy, read it.
Chuck Jones is remarkably humble even in the wake of huge success, and gives tremendous credit to everyone who worked with him, and hilariously disparages those who were his bosses. This book was a fascinating and often hilarious look at Chuck’s life and a glimpse behind the scenes at the making of many of those animated shorts.
